A new Families Commission report says most grandparents are faring well, but a small number are struggling - in particular grandparents raising grandchildren. The Commission's Changing Roles research paints an intricate picture of grandparents' lives, views, and needs. The survey questioned more than 1200 people about a range of issues related to their role as grandparents in New Zealand.
The Cancer Society Chief Executive, Dalton Kelly, is extremely concerned that an important select committee inquiry starting on International Women's Day has no women on the panel. The Māori Affairs Select Committee convenes on Monday to hear submissions on 'the tobacco industry in Aotearoa and the consequences of tobacco use for Māori."
The global financial crisis has effectively wiped out economic gains made by women on a global level. This is the finding of the first global bottom-up report 'Social Watch Report 2009' on the social impact of the financial crisis. With International Women's Day being celebrated on March 8, Trade Aid is urging New Zealanders to consider their role in the inequality and poverty of global women.

Waikato Hospital is getting in early to celebrate Children's Day with its paediatric patients and their families. Children's Day, celebrated nationally on Sunday 7 March, is being brought forward to today (Friday 5 March) at Waikato Hospital.

Arthritis New Zealand is raising money in a simple, easy way by selling spring-flowering Bulbs (See attachment).
The second annual Animates Giving Trees fundraiser captured the hearts of shoppers throughout the country, whose generosity helped to raise over $50,000 for the SPCA. During the months of November and December, Animates provided pet-lovers nationwide with the opportunity to make a small donation to the SPCA, in return for a decoration to trim one of their special Giving Trees.
